It runs here, but only with RC (don't use MAC and ACL).
I created a role "VMware", with members 
/usr/bin/vmware
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-mks
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-vmx
The role can "Modify_Permissions_Data" at SCD:ioports (among other things)
